PP加工绝大部份都是靠螺杆带动流动性，所以螺杆的设计影响非常大，口径大小影响产出量，压缩比大小影响压力值也影响产出量及成品效果，这也包括多种材料(色母、添加剂及改质剂) 的混炼效果。原料流动主要靠加温器，但原料翻动磨擦也会产生磨擦热能促使流动性加快，所以螺杆压缩比小带动流动小，转速必须加大所造成磨擦热能必较压缩比大的螺杆多。所以常说塑料加工无师傅，用心了解机器性能的人就是师傅。原料受热不只是加温器而已，必须连摩擦热及窒留时间都并算在内。所以这是实务问题，经验有助于生产问题解决及效率。螺杆如果需要混炼效果特别好，有时会设计二段式不同螺杆或双轴螺杆并分设各段不同形式螺杆以达各式混炼效果。
