There are many types of UV absorbers, among which phenylketone UV absorbers are widely used and have significant practical research value. Avobenzone belongs to the category of phenylketone ultraviolet absorbers and is also an important intermediate in organic synthesis. Avobezone is a synthetic UV absorber that is a good UV-A (320nm) type UV absorber. It can block the full wavelength (320-400nm) of UVA and is an efficient broad-spectrum oil soluble UVA filter. When combined with other UVB sunscreen agents, it can provide full UVA and UVB protection for preventing photoinduced skin cancer. At present, the main methods for synthesizing Avobenzone include: ① condensation addition elimination hydration method, which involves condensation, bromination addition, elimination into acetylene, and hydration of p-methoxyphenyl ketone and p-tert butylbenzaldehyde to obtain a product with a yield of 58%. This method has a long route, high cost, and low yield; ② The Clayson ester condensation method, which involves the reaction of p-methoxyphenyl ketone and p-tert butylbenzoate methyl ester, yields 63.6%. This method is low-cost, easy to operate, but has a lower yield Aldehyde ketone condensation method, which involves the condensation of p-methoxyphenyl ketone and p-tert butylbenzaldehyde into an alcohol and oxidation, yields 34.6%. This method is easy to operate, high in cost, and low in yield.
