Veracartide is a novel calcium mimetic agent developed for chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients undergoing hemodialysis treatment, administered intravenously. AMG416 binds and activates calcium sensitive receptors on the parathyroid gland, leading to a decrease in the level of parathyroid hormone (PTH) in the chemobook. The FDA has approved the use of a new calcium mimetic agent, Veracartide, for the treatment of secondary hyperparathyroidism in adult hemodialysis patients. It is the first drug approved in 12 years for the treatment of secondary hyperparathyroidism in dialysis patients. Patients with moderate to severe hyperparathyroidism undergoing hemodialysis and receiving treatment with veracalide showed a significant decrease in PTH levels.
